Home Care, Vigil and Home Funerals
Island Holistic Funerals, together with KI Doula Services, can help you take care of your person at home both before and after they have died.
Doing this can help the grieving process by:
During this time (as desired) you can wash your person, anoint them, dress them and take care of them until it is time for their funeral or final disposition.
We have cooling equipment that can keep your person cool and we will provide support to you and your family to know what to do.
This home care /vigil can progress to a home funeral if that is what you would like to do - this can be totally led by you, family or friends and be as beautiful and individual as the person who has died.
Island Holistic Funerals, together with KI Doula Services, can help you take care of your person at home both before and after they have died.

We will work with you or your loved ones to create a meaningful, heartfelt and authentic experience based wholly around the person who has died and their closest family and friends.
Don’t feel rushed - We want you to take the time you need to do your own funeral planning or to process the death of your loved one. We will not rush you into making decisions and will work to your timeline…
We are also happy to conduct services off-island where required.
You may want a full service burial or cremation or variations on simple or no service at all.
We will cater to all your needs as long as it is legal and safe.
We will work with you closely to determine your wishes and individual needs to honour the person who has died.

Burial on Private Land
Island Holistic Funerals, in collaboration with KI Doula Services, will support you to be buried or bury your loved one on privately owned land.
There are some legal requirements that need to be followed including:
- having the permission of the land owner;
- Notification to and approval from KI Council;
- Burial plot must be a certain distances from dwellings or structures and waterways.

Transport / Conveyancing Island Holistic Funerals utilises a custom converted Kia Carnival as both their transport vehicle and hearse. A traditional hearse can be arranged for use at extra cost and subject to availability.

A natural burial means the person is buried wearing natural fibres and in a shroud or coffin/casket made of natural materials so that all items will break down wholly and naturally into the earth.
The depth of burial is also shallower than traditional graves to utilise the aerobic components of the soil to more quickly break down the body.
Natural burial can be achieved in both a normal cemetery and on privately owned land.
